RMU~The Professors…Pow slaying skis

Yes, it has been a December to remember and we’re only half way!  Sun Valley is off to one of the best starts in recent memories! Over 60 inches of fresh have provided a solid base and has the most of the mountain open.  Enjoy these shots from the rarely skied College south slopes. Photos by Jon Mancuso.

Days like this call for “The Professor”.  The Professors are my new pow slaying skis.  These babies come in at [185cm] 144-150-122-134-123.  Yep, 122 under foot is perfect for floating the deep. Plus, it is a really fun and lively ski.  Another bonus is that they absolutely rip on the groomer back to the chair.  I was blown away on how easy it was to lay some trenches on the piste.

Oh yeah, there is another Winter Storm Warning…stay posted!

SUP Surfing~Stuart, Florida

I was lucky enough to get a sup surf day in Florida this fall at the Bic SUP Ambassador Summit.  The last day the waves cleaned up for this mountain kid to catch some waves and get humbled.  It was great to have Bic team mate Justin Schaay to show me the ropes.  Justin is a lifetime waterman from South Africa and excellent teacher.  Warning…it is super addictive!

Opening Day at Sun Valley

So so stoked to be back on snow!  The mountain opened on Thanksgiving and I was lucky enough to be on the 1st gondola early up at 8:30.  Nothing like standing on the top of Baldy with nobody there.  The conditions were perfect cordaroy and untracked 8 inches of freshies.  Perfect way to kick off the season and my first run. Give Thanks!

Sun Valley Ski Ads 2015-16

I am super stoked for the mountain to open on Thanksgiving!  It has been great to see some early season snow and watch Baldy transform to winter.  Everything is in place for a great season!  Plus, I am super proud to be featured in Sun Valley Resorts winter ski ads.  This marks the 2nd winter I’ve been featured by Sun Valley (also 2010).  The ads have run in Freeskier, Skiing,Ski, The Skier’s Journal and others.  I am also on the 80th season brochure and trail map. The photo was taken by Jon Mancuso.  Be sure to check out Jon’s sweet site http://www.jonmancuso.com/

SUP Video Destination~Redfish Lake, ID

DCIM102GOPRO

Located in the heart of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, Redfish Lake is named for the brilliant Sockeye Salmon that once returned from the Pacific Ocean in such massive quantities that the lake shimmered red during spawning season. Sadly, these fish are now on the endangered species list.  In the fall when supping you can see a few of these beautiful fish that have been trucked in to spawn.

One of my favorite paddles is a lap around Redfish Lake. It is about 9.7 miles when you circumnavigate.  The lake sits at 6,500 feet and is surrounded by 10,000 foot peaks.

Enjoy this edit from July.
