Opening Day at Sun Valley

So so stoked to be back on snow!  The mountain opened on Thanksgiving and I was lucky enough to be on the 1st gondola early up at 8:30.  Nothing like standing on the top of Baldy with nobody there.  The conditions were perfect cordaroy and untracked 8 inches of freshies.  Perfect way to kick off the season and my first run. Give Thanks!

Ski season is here!  Feels so good to get my Scarpa’s back on and start skinning.  Last weeks storm and all the snow making at scum valley gave you enough snow to ski the ribbon of death. Man, it was fun making some telemark turns!  Total shit snow but it felt great to sweet and spend some time walking up the mountain.  Nesta and I even made the front page of Idaho Mountain Express.

Thanks Photographer Jon Mancuso  for crushing it all day!  Enjoy a day in the life of ski bum!

Why I Ski Grand Targhee

Yes, Grand Targhee is my home away from home!  For the past 5 years I have made it point to head there for the storms.  Soft snow and and truly a soulful skiing experience! They are blessed with over 500 inches of dry powder each year.  Enjoy this slide show from the Ghee !

Mountain Niceness 2013

Look for more positive good things in 2014.

Mountain Niceness Tour~PNW

With the fires still burning in Idaho it was time to head to coast for some surf,SUP and van time.  First stop was Cannon Beach, Oregon and some surfing at Indian Beach at Ecola State Park.  It was fun talking the Glide Retro 12′ board into the ocean for the first time.

After enjoying some surf stoke it was time to head north on Highway 101 to the Hood Canal at the top of the Pugent Sound.  The canal is paddleboard paradise!  It offers endless flat water paddling with amazing views of the Olympic Mountains.  Nothing like going for a 3 hour paddle and the only thing you see is the seals following you!

Galena Ski Report~Galena Peak

It’s true that I am excited for stand up paddleboarding and rock climbing season BUT the skiing is so great right now!  Yesterday, we had a great ski on Galena Peak.  Everything was sty-lee!  We started skinning about 20 yards from the highway and took it 2700 feet up Senate Creek. Then we threw skis on pack and booted the last 1000 feet along the ridgeline to the summit.  The conditions were perfect!  There was 3 inches of fresh on the top and below was perfect smooth corn all the way back to the van!  Good Times skiing with Steve “Angry” Thompson!

Ski ya later!  Next stop the City of Rocks for the kick off of the 2013 Mountain Niceness Tour!!!!
