Thanks Photographer Jon Mancuso  for crushing it all day!  Enjoy a day in the life of ski bum!

Mountain Niceness Tour~PNW

With the fires still burning in Idaho it was time to head to coast for some surf,SUP and van time.  First stop was Cannon Beach, Oregon and some surfing at Indian Beach at Ecola State Park.  It was fun talking the Glide Retro 12′ board into the ocean for the first time.

After enjoying some surf stoke it was time to head north on Highway 101 to the Hood Canal at the top of the Pugent Sound.  The canal is paddleboard paradise!  It offers endless flat water paddling with amazing views of the Olympic Mountains.  Nothing like going for a 3 hour paddle and the only thing you see is the seals following you!

Mountain Niceness Tour~Oregon Coast

Greetings from Oregon!  Yes, it was time to go surfing and hit the coast!  We picked up Nesta’s buddy Denali in Seattle to add to the team and headed south.  We were lucky to get a site for the van in Nehalem State Park for the week.  Nehalem is a beautiful campground right on the ocean.  I will say it is busy but was really nice.  Everybody (from Canada) was really friendly and respectful.  They offered great hot showers which was amazing after a day of in cold Pacific.

The days were spent surfing at Indian Beach in Ecola State Park just outside of Cannon Beach. We would drive there each day because it was a spot we really loved.  Our first day we had real Irish weather …cold and mystic.  The rest of the week we lucked out with sunny weather with 3-4 foot waves.  Sorry so surf actions shot.  We were having too much fun surfing to stop to take shots… I know it sounds lame.

We had a blast…Enjoy these images!

Mountain Niceness Tour~City of Rocks

I am stoke to announce the kickoff of this years Mountain Niceness Tour.  “The Mountain Niceness Tour” is a series of adventures, revolving around one of the most classic modes of transport ever on the planet, the Volkswagen Van”.  As we travel through the beautiful regions of the west, we will be armed with skis, climbing and mountaineering gear, surf boards, stand up paddle boards, and mountain bikes. The mission is enjoy all the beauty of the west and spread the Mountain Niceness.

I love this time of the year!  There is still great skiing and you get to start enjoying other favorite sports. First stop on the Tour is the City of Rocks National Reserve, Idaho.  The City of Rocks is a popular rock climbing area, with numerous traditional and bolt-protected routes. Climbers in the region refer to the area as simply ‘The City’.The rock spires in the City of Rocks and adjacent Castle Rocks are largely composed of granitic rock in the middle of the desert of Southern Idaho.

Puppy Time!

I am pleased to introduce you to the newest member of the Mountain Niceness family Nesta!  Nesta is a 8 week old yellow lab.  Last weekend we loaded the VW for its first trip of the season and headed to Montana to pick him up.   The breeder was so stoked to see our dog Buck again after 12 and half years. Buck is looks great for his years and has been an amazing dog. So why not go back to the source for our new guy.

So far things have been pretty good with our buddy.  He and I have a lot in common.  We both wake up really early.  We love to play super hard, eat and then crash for a few hours!  Classic!

Great Season~Now its time to head to the Alpine!

It was a great final week of skiing at Sun Valley.  Killer Spring Sunny days, soft snow, good friends, great parties!  The lifts may have stopped spinning but there is still lots of skiing!  The peaks are filled in and there is lots of snow up high.  I am looking forward to the spring mountaineering season!

Here are some Mountain Niceness moments from this season.  Enjoy!
