RMU~The Professors…Pow slaying skis

Yes, it has been a December to remember and we’re only half way!  Sun Valley is off to one of the best starts in recent memories! Over 60 inches of fresh have provided a solid base and has the most of the mountain open.  Enjoy these shots from the rarely skied College south slopes. Photos by Jon Mancuso.

Days like this call for “The Professor”.  The Professors are my new pow slaying skis.  These babies come in at [185cm] 144-150-122-134-123.  Yep, 122 under foot is perfect for floating the deep. Plus, it is a really fun and lively ski.  Another bonus is that they absolutely rip on the groomer back to the chair.  I was blown away on how easy it was to lay some trenches on the piste.

Oh yeah, there is another Winter Storm Warning…stay posted!

Jon Mancuso Photography
The first Sun Valley Mid-Winter Photo Challenge went down a couple days ago and was a super fun event. 5 photographer/athlete teams had 12 hours to shoot and produce a 3 minute slideshow using only that day’s images. Thanks Photographer Jon Mancuso http://www.jonmancuso.com/  for crushing it all day!  Enjoy a day in the life of ski bum!

Why I Ski Grand Targhee

Yes, Grand Targhee is my home away from home!  For the past 5 years I have made it point to head there for the storms.  Soft snow and and truly a soulful skiing experience! They are blessed with over 500 inches of dry powder each year.  Enjoy this slide show from the Ghee ! http://flipagram.com/f/biHE6DD5gl#

Happy New Year-Silver Peak

Had to kick off the year right with nice tour out to Silver Peak in the Smokey Mountains, Idaho.  Bluebird and 4 degrees greeted us at the trailhead.  Once we started moving the thoughts of the cold quickly went away.  We toured through the valley to the alpine.  We ended up stopping about 200 feet shy of summit due to the hard wind slab conditions plus 30+ winds.  Why keep going when we can ski sheltered deep plower powder?  So we skied the lower down the powder bowls below and then headed up the opposite west facing shot.  The west shot was 200o feet of powder bliss.  Yes-face shots all the way down!  First big day of the season!  Silver Peak is usually something I’ll do in the spring.  Stoked to have gotten out there so soon this season!
